FUNERAL OF SERGEANTMAJOR BEVIN.

[Pkb Pbess Association/! DUNEDIN, May 10. The funeral, with military honours, of the late Sergeant-Major Bevin, one of the survivors of the famous charge of the Six Hundred at Balaclava,- took place this afternoon, and was a most .imposing spectacle. The streets were lined with thousands of spectators, chiefly women., The Hussars’ firing party headed the procession, followed by a gun-carriage with the remains, drawn by three splendid black horses. Then came a strong body of police, under Insnector Hickson. -The Volunteers mustered very strongly, tho B Battery, Navals and the four city Rifle Companies turning out almost their full strength. The suburban Companies were also represented, and the Garrison and Ordnance Bands played the Dead March. The Eire Brigade and Salvage Corps also turned out, while there was an unusually large master of prominent citizens. Lieutenant-Colonel Hume, Commissioner of the Police, being unable to be personally present, was represented by bis son, who placed a wreath on the coffin. The Police Eorce also provided a beautiful wreath.
