A NICE POINT.
[Per Press Association.] REEFTON, May 29. The election of Chairman of the County Council was fixed for Wednesday last, the Clerk of the Council presiding. When it came to voting the parties were even, and the County Clerk claimed the right to exercise a casting vote, and did so in favour of Mr C. R. Craig. Mr Menteath protested against the legality of the Clerk’s action, and the meeting was adjourned until yesterday to take outside legal advice. At the Council meeting to-night Mr Craig did not take the chair, but proposed Mr Menteath as temporary Chairman, the inference being that the legal advice was opposed to the action of the Clerk. The motion was carried, and subsequently Mr Menteath was elected County Chairman. ,
