The [annual rate meeting at Toi Tapu, now, however, held under the auspices of the newly formed Akarea County Racing Club, came off yesterday in Mr Murray’s paddock at Tai Tapu. Christchurch furnished its usual quota of visitors, but the country people did not show up well, and the. attendance was but meagre. Bain commenced to foil, too, shortly before the time fixed for starting the first race, and as it continued, with very little intermission, throughout the day, the Tai Tapu racing people’s annual festival was not the pleasant little gathering it usually has boon. Added to tbie there was a lack of interest attaching to nearly all the events from the faet of their being confined to the inmates of one stable, in fact the meeting might be fairly termed a performanoo lor the benefit of Messrs fiheonan and Judge, the latter o! whom, by the way, provided a cold collation on the ground and also dispensed liquid comforts.
