MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.

The annual meeting of members belonging to the A.O.F. Widows and Orphans’ Fund took place on Thursday at the Foresters’ Hall, Bro William Ness (President) in tho chaii. There was a fair attendance of members. The Hon Secretary, Bro H. Crooks, read the annual balance-sheet, which showed the total amount of the funds to be £1197 6s 2id. The balance-sheet was received and adopted. The following brothers were duly elected to fill the various offices for the ensuing year ; President, Bro Bichard Evans; Vice-Presi-dent, Bro W. H. Newman; Treasurer, Bro J. Hudson; Hon Secretary, Bro H. Crooks. A vote of thanks was passed to the retiring . officers, and the meeting then closed. The Anchor Lodge, Woolston, D.AO.D., held their usual fortnightly meeting on Wednesday last, in the new Lodge room, Oddfellows’ Hall. Bro Davis, A.D., presided, ably assisted by Bro Engleman, V.A. There was a large attendance of the brethren. An official visit was received from the officers and brothers of the St Albans Lodge. A number of the Pioneer and Masterton Lodge members were present, also the Worthy District Presidents, Bros Wilsteed and Samuels. Having disposed of the business, including the initiation of four new members, the Lodge was closed in due form.

The quarterly meeting of the Crusader Tent, No. 42, 1.0.8.A.D., was held in the lower room of the Oddfellows* Hall, Lyttelton, on Tuesday evening, Nov. 22, Bro B. Derbidge, 0.8., presiding. There was a good attendance of members. The C.B. proceeded with the usual preliminary business, initiating one candidate, and considering report from the relative of a late member whose death had occurred through an accident recently at the Blneskin. Resolved, after an expression of sympathy by the members generally, to forward forthwith the £35, funeral donation, according to notice of motion. The advisability of increasing the contributions from lOd to Is per week, to meet the expense of providing medical attendance for the members and their wives and families, was discussed at some length, and eventually it was adopted. The 0. Baler then proceeded with the election and installation of the following members as officers for the ensuing term: — Bro E. A. Early, C. 8.; Bro J. Bennington, D.B. j Bro fi. Thiokine, Sec., re-elected ; Bro 8. B. Webb, Treasurer, re-elected; Bro J. B. Smith, Steward, re-elected; Bro J. H. Wear, Levite; Bro H. Byder, Guard; Supporters to the 0. and D. Ruler to be chosen at the following Tent meeting, which was notified by the Secretary as the finance night. After some further business the 0. Baler closed the tent in due form.

A meeting of the Band of Hope in connection with the North Belt Presbyterian Church was held at seven o’clock on Thursday. Mr A. Davidson, Vice-Presi-dent, occupied the chair. Dialogues were given by Messrs Davidson, Kerr, Goss, and Green, a reading by Miss Fergassou, and a recitation by Mr Green. On the wholes very pleasant evening was spent.
