ROAD BOARDS.

HEATHCOTE. The ordinary meeting of the above Board was held on Friday, Feb. 7, at 10 a.m.; present—Messrs B. Clephane (Chairman), J. O’Beil, T. Bruce, W, Attwood, and W. Hawker.—The Chairman reported that the deputation appointed at last meeting; had waited on the Hon J. Hall, and fully explained the state of the Swing Bridge to him, and asking that the County Cornual would put the bridge In a safe state of repair, as such a work was more than the Board amid undertake ont of the rates. Mr'Hall thought the Board-had good cause for assistance, and promised the matter should not be lost sight of when the question of division of County funds was decided upon by the Council. Mr Brace reported the estimated cost to be from £BOO to £looo.—The Clerk reported the receipts for the fortnight to be £2O 6s 8d. —Mr A. Adley waited on the Board with reference to the impounding of stray cattle, and hoped the Board would still continue to employ persons to keep the roads clear, as, since the present system had been adopted, there was a very , decided diminution in the number of cattle straying on the roads.—Mr Hawker moved his resolution regarding the division of the district into wards, which was negatived.—lt was resolved to call for tenders for the lease of the Pound for twelve months, the successful tenderer to enter into an agreement to keep the roads dear of stray cattle.—Cor*, respondence was read:—From Mr James Medley re supply of timber, to be attended to. —From Drainage Engineer re clearing out samps. The matter had been attended to,—From,,..Mr- J...JKnight re Lower Avon road. It was decided to pay the amount.— From Mr Mercer and others re Sandhills. It was resolved to invite tenders from those interested to make a passable track.—A tender was accepted for each of the works , advertised.—Accounts amounting .to . £BO2 6s 8d were passed for payment.—As the Board was adjourning, Mr H. Bing wished to lay bis grievance before, them re pounding cattle, and was informed the Board had dealt with the question. .
