OHRWTOHUROII. Friday, March 2. (Before G. U. Mellish, Esq , R.M.) Drunkenness.-—Throe inebriates, who appeared for tho first time, wore fined 5s each. Mary Cunningham, for drunkenness and using obscene language, was dismissed with a caution. Vagrancy—Henry Elliot, who had been arrested far stealing flowers, was charged with vagrancy, as the owner of the flowers declined to prosecute. The evidence went to show that the prisoner had been leading a vagrant life, and ho was aontouoed to six months’ imprisonment with hard labour. Attempting to Commit Suicide. —Ucr.ry S. Logg, on remand, appeared iu answer to his recognisance to answer a charge of this nature. A certificate was produced from Dr Nedwill, stating that, accused was of sound mind and fit to bo discharged from the Hospital. In reply to hie Worship, accused expressed regret for having attempted to take his life, and said He was now quite well and able to take care of himself. If discharged ho should endeavour to find employment that would keep him from again getting into euob a desponding state. His Worship explained the serious nature of the offence with which accused was charged, and after giving him some good advice and cautioning him as to his future conduct, dismissed the case, and ordered him to be discharged. ASHBURTON. Friday, March 2. (Before J, E. Trevor, Esq ) ! Drunkenness.—James Hawdon was fined £2, or 48 hours’ imprisonment,—Thomas Simpson was fined £3. MALVERN. Thursday, March 1. (Before O. G. Parker, Efq.) Obtaining Money by means of A Valueless Order. —Charles Evans, who appeared to be about 18 years of age, was charged with this offence. Prisoner presented an order at Johnstone’s store, Waddington, signed William Stokes, saying it waa from the contractor for the Waimakariri bridge, and obtained a pair of moleskiu trousers, shirt, and pair of boots. Prisoner was sentenced to rix months’ imprisonment with hard labour. His Worship remarked to Mr Johnstone that if he had paid attention to the order he would have seen the name was wrongly spelt. TIMARU. Friday, March 2. (Before F. Archer and M. Gray, E-qs.) Drunkenness. —Charles Wilson, charged with being drunk and disorderly and resisting the police, was sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment, with bard labour. Larceny. —James Keel in, alias Hobart Town Jack, and James Davis, charged with stealing a watch from Henry Stevens, a shepherd at Pleasant Point, were committed for trial at the next sitting of the Supremo Court, to be held at Timaru.
