Colonel Lyons has received intelligence from Mr Parris that Titoko, with a large force, is in Upper Waitara, and is likely to attack, not Patea, but the northern portion of Taranaki. He recommends Colonel Lyons to move his force to Waihi, in order to get at the rebels by the bush track at the back of Mount Egmont. Colonel Lyons was sending an expedition up the Patea river to destroy the kaingas and cultivations. He had scoured the Whenuakura district without discovering a trace of the enemy. The Ngati porous and Kemp’s Wanganuis, were cordially assisting. The half-yearly meeting of the New Zealand Steam Navigation Company was held to-day. A. special resolution was passed to alter the regulations under the Act of last session, so as to allow the reduction of the nominal capital, and a declaration of dividend. A letter was read from the Circular Saw Company, offering £25,290 for the whole plant and assets of the Company. The offer was refused, but consideration was promised of any suitable offer. The retiring directors, Messrs Bishop and Burne, were re-elected. The working account for the halfyear shows a profit of £3119 16s Bd, but no dividend can legally be declared till the nominal capital has been reduced.
