Mr Thomas Pope, at one time in charge of the local post office, has been transferred from Fairlie to Clinton.

Captain E. 0. W. Porter, of Wyndham, has been awarded the Colonial Auxiliary Forces' decoration for long service. He has had over 22 years' service.

Coming by the transport Prinzessin, due at Wellington on June 25, are Trooper Joblin (Arrowtown) and Private P. E. Kelly (Qneenatown). Private Joseph Kirby, who went to tbe front from Gibbaton, is at present on a visit to this distriot.

Mr H. G. Yonngman, formerly postmaster at Ajrowtown and latterly at Akaroa, has been transferred to the position of postmaster at Temuka. Mr H. A. Young, S.M , has been appointed Registrar of the Supreme Court at Hamilton, and chairman of the Licensing Committees for the districts Waikato and Thames, vice Mr J. VV. Poynton, S.M. The following district soldiers are returning by the Maunganui, to arrive at Port Chalmers on Saturday :—C. C. Johnston and J. K Toll, Arrowtown ; James Kinross, Gibbston ; Albert Lafranohi, Cardrona; H. Dagg, Wharehuanui; J. J. Connell, W. Sainsbury, and T. B. MoKinlay, Queenstown. Mr Charles Forbes, son of Mr and Mrs J. Forbes, Arrowtown, who was an applicant for service in the police force, has received instructions to report himself at police headquarters, Invercargill, on Monday next, 28rd inst. Charley recently returned from active service, and he will have the bent wishes of his many friends here for his success in his new sphere of service.

Old Maoetown miners will regret to bear of death of Mr James Moyle, which took plaoe at Heriot on the 9th inst. The late Mr Moyle worked at the Maoetown reefs for many years. He was 78 years of age. The death took plaoe at Duoedin on the Bth inst. of Miss Margaret Shaw, cousin of Messrs James, Robert, and Walter Shaw, of Arrowtown, Deceased young lady was a resident of Lower Shotover some years ago, having resided there with her nnole and aunt (Mr and Mrs W. Shaw), now of Loobeil, Southland.
