FIXTURES IN VIEW. THE TARANAKI GAME. The monthly meeting of the Management Committee of the King Country Rugby Football Union was held in the Union's office last week, Mr. B. M. Rice, in the absence of the president, presiding. Mr. G. Cameron, president, arrived later in the evening and took the chair. There were present: Messrs. N. E. Margan (Ohura), T. Craig (Ruapehu), C. Taylor (Taumarunui), J. F. Irwin (Otorohanga), T. McFadyen (Kaitieke), B. M. Rice (Tokaanu), C. Johnston (treasurer), D. H. Derbridge (referees), A. W. Joseph (Native race), and L. McKenzie (secretary), Messrs. A. J. McCready and Dan Sisley (Otorohanga) were also present.

Fiji Match.

It was resolved, on the motion of Messrs. Rice and Derbridge, that the charges for admission to the FijiKing Country match at Taumarunui on Wednesday, August 30, as suggested by the N.Z. Rugby Union, viz., 2s for ground and Is for grandstand be approved. It was moved by Mr. Taylor, and seconded by Mr. Cameron, that the Minister of Public Works, be asked to allow men in the employ of his department time off to enable them to witness the Fiji-King Country match and that mill-owners be notified of the match.

Mr. A. W. Joseph, representing the Natives, asked permission to arrange a match between Northern and Southern King Country Maoris as a curtain-raiser to the Fiji match. Permission was granted subject to the N.Z. Rugby Union consenting to pay cost of assembling the Natives. Mr. Joseph said that a team would be picked from the North and South teams to play the Waikato and Thames Valley Maoris at Hamilton on September 16, the occasion of the Fiji match. Mr. Joseph also asked that the local Maoris be allowed to entertain the members of the Fijian team on the morning of the match at Taumarunui. Mr. Cameron said that the Union had no objection to the Maoris entertaining the visitors, but the matter would have to be represented to the N.Z. Rugby Union.

Minor Unions.

The New Zealand Rugby Union forwarded nomination forms for the North and South Minor Unions' match to be played in Christchurch on August 19, and advising that nominations close on August 1. It was resolved, on the motion of Messrs. Rice and Irwfn, that the selection and nomination of King Country players be left in Mr. T. Craig's hands.

Wanganui Match

It was resolved that Mr. C. Johnston be manager of the King Country team to play Wanganui at Wanganui on August 12, and that the players stay at Station Hotel. On the motion of Messrs. Craig and Rice, it was resolved that the King Country player proceed to Raetihi on Friday, Augut 11, and stay at the Waimarino Hotel, and proceed to Wanganui at 9 a.m. on Saturday. It was reported that several Rugby supporters were willing to lend their cars for the conveyance of players to Wanganui, and it was resolved that the Union allow owners of cars 30s for benzine.

Country Football

A lengthy report on country football in Hawkes Bay district, submitted by Mr. G. A. Maddison, president of the Hawke's Bay Rugby Union, was read and it was' resolved to ask each Sub-Union in the King Country to furnish a report on what is done for footballers and what difficulties are met with in their respective districts regarding travelling to different places to play games.

Taranaki Match.

The manager of the King Country team whiqh played Taranaki at Stratford on July 12, Mr. C. Taylor, stated that, although the railway arrangements were not the best going to Taranaki, they were excellent on the return journey. On arrival at Stratford, Mr. Taylor said, they were met by Taranaki Rugby Union officials and taken to the hotel where excellent accommodation was provided. The game, which was witnessed by a large crowd, was one of the best he had seen, and, although beaten by 26 to 15, King Country were not disgraced. Mr. C. G. Porter, the famous 1924 All Black, informed him that with a little more combination the King Country team

would be one of the best provincial teams in New Zealand. It was indeed unfortunate that they lost two of their best forwards 15 minutes before time was called and he wished to congratulate the players on their conduct both on and off the field. At the dinner in the evening Mr. Nolan, president of the Taranaki Rugby Union, said that his Union was pleased with the gate and the game. He hoped that the fixture would be an annual one and when the time came for Taranaki to travel to Taumarunui an A team would be sent.

It was resolved on the motion of Mr. Cameron, seconded Mr. Craig, that the Taranaki Rugby Union be asked to send their A team to Taumarunui this season and that Mr. Taylor be thanked for his report and congratulated on the way in which he managed the team. Hetet Shield. The following challenges for the Hetet Shield were received:— (1) Otorohanga Sub-Union. (2) Ohura Sub-Union. (3) Taumarunui Sub-Union. Rep. Fixtures. Permission was granted Sub-Unions to play representative fixtures as follows: — Maniapoto v. Cambridge for the Peace Cup at Te Kuiti on August 12. Ohura v. Maniapoto at Taumarunui on September 9.

Waikato Match.

It was resolved, on the motion of Messrs. Cameron and Taylor that the arrangements for the King CountryWaikato match, to be played at Otorohanga on Saturday, September 2, be left in the hands of the Otorohanga Sub-Union.
