FAREWELL AT WAITOMO

MR. AND MRS. H. MERRIN AND FAMILY. PRESENTATION OF DINNER SET. The Waitomo Caves Hall was the scene of a very pleasant social function on Monday evening, 17th July, when Otorohanga and Waitomo friends gathered together to bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. H. Merrin and family. The evening was spent by the majority dancing, while cards enthusiasts were also catered for. During the supper interval Mr. F. C. Bryan, on behalf of those present, asked Mr. and Mrs. Merrin to accept a dinner set, with the good wishes of all. In the course of his remarks Mr. Bryan referred to the vigorous interest taken by Mr. and Mrs. Merrin in village affairs, in particular the Euchre Club, the Sports Club and the School Committee. In replying, Mr. Merrin sincerely thanked all those present for their gift, and the happy evening.

Throughout the evening musical items were contributed by some of the school children and by Master Phillips Tare. Humorous recitations were rendered by Mrs. R. Holden and Mr. Chaffey. Music for the dancing was voluntarily supplied by Mr. Chaffey, assisted at intervals by an impromptu orchestra. Miss Joyce Hand played an extra. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr; and Mrs. Crane. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr. G. Holden. An enjoyable evening was brought to a close by the singing of Auld Lang Syne around the guests of honour, followed by the National Anthem.
