A review of the criminal business before the Supreme Court, Hamilton, was given to the Grand Jury by Mr. Justice Johnston when the session opened yesterday. The list comprised seven indictments, two being alleged robbery with violence, two negligent driving causing death, one of which is a retrial, and three relating to sexual offences. Reference was made by His Honour to the Maori custom of allowing guests of different sexes the same sleeping accommodation, the comment being made during the review of one of the sexual indictments. His Honour said it was little use commenting on Maori custom, but ones of that nature carried their own danger, and this certainly seemed one that should be abolished.
