CENTENNIAL MEMORIALS
DONATIONS BY POWER BOARD.
Following upon the Mayor, Mr. H. T. Morton, and Mr. E. M. Innes-Jones, waiting uopn the Waitomo Power Board on Monday asking for a donation towards the Centennial Park fund, the Board decide to donate a total of £IOO towards Centennial memorials, to be allocated in the proportion of three parts for Te Kuiti Borough three parts for the Otorohanga County Council, two parts for the portion of the Waitomo County in the Board’s area, and two parts for the Otorohanga Town Board. After hearing the deputation several speakers said that though the Board should give some assistance to local Centennial memorials, the donation should not be large.
Mr. J. N. Boddie mentioned that already the Board had given £75 towards the Dominion Exhibition in Wellington, but Mr. Simms said that, as he had mentioned at the time, he felt that local endeavours should receive the greatest support.
When Mr. Brook moved that £SO be allocated each to Otorohanga and Te Kuiti, Mr. W. A. Lee held that the local memorials of the country districts should be taken into consideration, and on Mr. Lee’s suggestion Mr. Brook agreed to amend his motion. This was carried.
Mr. Bluck said that no particular memorials had been mooted for the Otorohanga County, but it was .stated that in the event of that County joining in with Otorohanga Town Board, the money could be used by those two bodies working in conjunction. Mr. W. A. Lee explained the form of local memorials proposed in the Waitomo County area.
