PAYOUT OF £749,139. 16.687 D. FOR BUTTERFAT. NEW ZEALAND CO-OPERATIVE. A total payment of 16.6878 d per lb for butterfat supplied for butter manufacture during the 1938-39 season was announced yesterday by Mr. C. J. Parlane, general manager of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd. After making provision for the maintenance of the company’s factories and plants, the surplus in the profit and loss account amounted to £749,139. This would permit of a final, payment to shareholding suppliers for finest quality butterfat for buttercontribution to the cost of collecting, of 16.6878 d per lb., the deferred payment for the complete season, including the shareholders’ bonus, being 1.9186 d per lb butterfat.

The payments at the company’s cheese factories varied according to local conditions, but excluding East Tamaki, which sold a large quantity of milk to the Auckland city, the average payment to suppliers to the remaining 17 factories amounted to 18.4496 d per lb. butterfat.

The deferred payments available will be paid out to butter and cheese suppliers on July 31.
