RISE IN WETHERS
FRANKTON STOCK VALUES. BRIGHTER MARKET FOR BEEF. Animated competion was shown over the early fat sheep sales at Frankton yesterday, and a distinct improvement was noticeable, best wethers selling freely from 25s 6d to 28s. Other classes of sheep were also slightly dearer. The average entry of cow and heifer beef sold more readily than last week, better values being obtained, particularly for the rougher class of cattle. Ox beef was only in very light supply, and as with cow and heifer beef, prices on the whole were a shade better. A full entry of calves sold at firm rates, and there was little apparent alteration for a lighter entry of boners. Fat pigs were forward in negligible numbers and values were scarcely quotable. Heavy prime steers made from £ll 17s 6d to £l2 l’ss; light £8 17s 6d to £9 4s; extra prime cows and heifers £8 17s 6d to £9 4s; medium £6 15s to £7 17 6d; lighter £5 to £6 ss; small and killable £3 10s to £4 15s; extra prime wethers 25s 6d to 28s.
