LONDON BUTTER MARKET

IMPROVEMENT NOTED. WHOLESALE PRICES FIRMER. An improvement in the demand for butter developed on the London marke at the close of last week, according to the report of the Dairy Board. Wholesale prices firmed Is per cwt to 119 s to 120 s per cwt on the previous week’s rates and compare with 123 s per cwt ruling at the same period a year ago. Deliveries for the week at 1368 tons showed a' slight rise on the quantity sent from store in the corresponding week of 1938. Stored stocks of New Zealand butter in London, however, remain on the high side at 6299 tons, but reveal a reduction of over 300 tons on the previous week’s total.

Retail prices of both New Zealand butter and cheese remain unchanged at Is 2d and 7d per lb., respectively. Danish butter is also retailing unaltered at Is 3d per lb.
