MANGAPEHI NOTES

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE DANCE. Although the weather was anything but ideal, the annual dance held by the Mangapih Women’s Institute in the Mangapehi Hall on Saturday evening last was very well attended. For the occasion, the hall had been tastefully decorated by the members, their husbands and friends, with greenery, pink and green streamers, and pink roses —the Institute’s flower

being a pink rose—and clusters of gaily coloured balloons lent an added note of gaiety to the scene. Excellent dance music was supplied by Mr. Hetet’s orchestra from Te Kuiti. Old-time dances made the major portion of the progamme, and novelty dances during the evening were the ever popular Institute Waltz and an original version of the Monte Carlo Waltz. There were a greater number of non-dancers than usual, and 500 was played in the cardroom, where a cheery fire blazed. After supper had been served, the president, Mrs. Newton, presented the prizes won during the evening, and in a short address thanked all present for helping to make the evening’s entertainment such a success. The winners of the Institute waltz were Mr. and Mrs. N. Cressy; the Monte Carlo, Mr. and Mrs. Hill; and 500, Mrs. E. M. Smith and Mr. P. Costello. Dancing was then continued till midnight.
