WINTER SHOW

OPENING TO-MORROW. THREE DAY EXHIBITION. EXCEPTIONAL INTEREST SHOWN. The Te Kuiti and District Winter Show to be opened to-morrow by the Hon. W. Lee Martin, Minister of Agriculture, promises to exceed in success any previous exhibition held by the Show Association. The interest shown has been most gratifying and a very successful fixture is anticipated.

Good entries have been received in all sections —those catering for the farmer; the gardener, the womenfolk, the school pupil, and those interested in poultry or cage birds. Industrial exhibitors have booked all the available space, and it is understood that the sideshows include efforts by local organisations to raise money for the Centennial Park.

The farmer is likely to find much to interest him at the Show. Arrangements have been made to have a display of wool and pelts in conjunction with the wool exhibit, whilst a comprehensive demonstration by the Department of Agriculture of the effect of manurial treatments, of swede varieties and the effect of disease in swedes, and of other matters of interest to farmers, is bound to cause much attention.

One of the most important features of the Show will be the exhibition of old and modern masters by the Auckland Society of Arts. Old time paintings are to be hung in the Fire Brigade building, and modern works in the Municipal Chambers. The exhibiti'on, which attracted much attention when shown in Taumarunui, Whangarei and other centres, is felt to be a very worthwhile addition to the Show’s attractions.

Special efforts are being made this year to make the competitions, for long one of the most popular features of the Show, even more attractive. This will enable much more interesting programmes to be staged during the remainder of the Show. The price of admission to the competitions has been reduced from Is to 6d.

On Thursday and Friday afternoons the juvenile items will be heard. As these involve much repetition, it has been decided to open them to parents and those interested free of charge. The ordinary sessions will therefore be suspended. Physical fitness displays are to be given each evening in the main hall by the pupils of the Te Kuiti District High School. The Municipal Band, under Mr. R. D. Lee, is also to play in the main hall each evening. On Saturday afternoon a baby show is to be held.

An exhibition of flowers by the W.D.F.U. will introduce a new interest to the Show’s already comprehensive activities. Members of the Te Kuiti Model Aeroplane Club report that this year’s exhibition should be the most interesting yet to be held.

Visitors to the Show are reminded that the Blind Institute has again been granted space by the Show Committee, and that the articles made by blind workers will again be on sale.
