“Personally I am in favour of the licensing of bookmakers, for I would rather seen it done openly than have it carried 'on in the underhand way
it is at present,” said Mr. W. J. Lyon, M.P. for Waitemata, in reply to a question in the Cambridge Parish Hall. “However, I do not think any Government would, in the face of church opinion, have the courage to interfere with either the gaming laws or the liquor laws.”
