OBITUARY
MR. JOHN ANDREW HARPER. There passed away on Saturday one of Kawhia South pioneers in the person of Mr. John A. Harper, at the age of 70 years. The late Mr. Harper was born at Maunganui, Bay of Islands, and for some years tried his fortune goldmining on the Barrier goldfields, leaving there to settle in the Kinohaku 31 years ago. He was widely known as a man of sterling quality, always ready to lend a hand in the advancement of the district’s affairs, and was for many years a director of the Marakopa Co-op. Dairy Company. With advancing years he retired from farming about three years ago and went to reside at Te Waitere. He leaves a widow and an adult family of four sons and two daughters, all of whom reside in the district, the sons being engaged in farming.
A large concourse of old friends, representative of every part of the district, attended the funeral, which was held at “The Point” Cemetery, Kinohaku, on Monday, to pay thenlast respects, there being a bountiful array of floral emblems.
