Visitors to Mangapehi last week were Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Goodger, of Hastings, who have been on a motor tour of the Rotorua and Auckland districts. On their return trip, a few days were spent visiting Mrs. Goodger’s brother, Mr. Russell, at the Matai School, and friends at Horokino. Before leaving the district a pleasant afternoon was spent with friends in Mangapehi. Mr. Russell is accompanying Mr, and Mrs. Goodger back to Hastings where he will spend part of the school vacation, and they intend travelling via National Park and Taupo.

St. Andrew’s Church was almost filled on Sunday evening when a special carol service was held. Solos were most effectively given by Mr. L. R. Cobb and Mr. H. G. Shakes. A duet was sweetly sung by Miss N. Edwards and Miss E. Causley, while the augmented choir, conducted by Mr. Bates, rendered several carols very nicely. Rev. W. T. Brabyn’s address was based on the text “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, goodwill to men.” A quintette consisting of Misses Spence, Edwards, Causley and Messrs. Shakes and Wilson, gave an insiring rendering of “Silent Night,” a fitting conclusion to a joyous service. Mrs. Brabyn and Mr. R. R. Browne presided at the organ.
