LAUNDRY.

WELCOME LAUNDRY HINTS. Before washing printed cotton materials soak them in a solution of Epsom salts. This sets the colours. To remove tar marks from white shoes, rub fresh butter onto the marks. A little petrol will remove the butter. A very simple way to obtain a good polish on collars is, after they are starched and slightly pressed, to rub over the surface with a little white soap. Then take a small sponge, or clean cloth, dip it into talcum powder and rub it lightly over. Iron with a hot iron and a high gloss will be the result. If egg shells are saved and tied up in a white calico bag, then placed in the copper when it is boiling, they act as a bleach and can be dried and used several times. Instead of using a knife to cut up the soap on washing days, use an old suet grater. This is much easier and the soap dissolves more quickly. For banana snd wine stains hold the article over burning sulphur, and wash it carefully afterwards.

When laundering- fine linens or any dainty articles, place small strips of white paper under the pegs when hanging on the line, and there will be none of those ugly peg marks.
