SUCCESSFUL ANNUAL TRIALS. RESULTS OF EVENTS. The Pio Tio Collie Club's 19th annual trialg, were held on Mr. J. H. McDowell's farm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. The meeting was an extremely successful one. The committee had the good fortune to pick three beautifully fine days for the function, and with good organisation and good entries, have every reason to be pleased with their annual trials. The course was a difficult one which tested the dogs to the utmost, but despite this some very good work was seen, particularly in the short head, to which the judge, Mr. R. A. Mead, of Waitetuna, accorded high praise for the standard of work. On Tuesday evening the annual Collie Club dance was held in the Pio Pio Town Hall—this also was attended with considerable success. Swift's orchestra was in good form, and the large crowd present enjoyed the function thoroughly. Results. The following were the results of the trials: — Class I.—Long Head. Bring back and hold in ring. About 440yds. Time allowed, 10 minutes. First prize £3, second £1 ss, third 15s. Eraser Smith, Awakino (Highland King), 44% points 1 A. Sutherland, Rangitoto (Fly), 43 points 2 D. McLean, Te Kuiti (Bell), 42 points 3 H. Price, Mohakatina (Mack) 41 points 4 Competitors numbered 37. Judge's comments: Work in this class was very good and quite up to the general standard, competition being uniform throughout. Class ll.—Short Head. Drive and yard. About 350yds. Time allowed, 12 minutes. First prize £3, second £1 ss, third 15s. A. Sutherland, Rangitoto (Fly), 57 points 1 Fraser Smith, Awakino (Highland King) 54 points 2 R. S. Stubbings, Kariori (KingCole), 53 points 3 F. King, Awakino (Kep), 52 points 4 There were 29 competitors. Judge's comments. This was the leading feature of the trials. Splendid work was seen, with many young dogs showing particular promise. The work in this event in some cases was excellent. Class lll.—Short Head. Hold in ring and huntaway. About 400 yards. . Time allowed, 12 minutes. First prize £3, second £1 ss, third 15s. W. J. Trembath, Arapae (Nigger). 40 points 1 E. Johnson, Litchfield (Tip), 39 points 2 F. Smith, Awakino (Toss), 38 points 3 E. Johnson, Litchfield (Sky), 37 points 4 Competitors numbered 21. Judge's comments: This all-round class proved a very hard one, many of the veterans failing. The work in this class was decidedly weak. Class IV.—Huntaway between three sets of flags on zig-zag course of about 400yds. Time allowed, 12 minutes. First prize £3, second £1 ss, third 15s. D. Calvert (Jock), ,40 points .... 1 F. King (Don), 39 points 2 F. Smith (Toss), 37 points 3 Roy Boddy (Ruff), 36 points .... 4 Competitors numbered 18. Judge's comments: This "class attracted comparatively few competitors, but the placed clogs gave a very pleasing display and the event concluded a very well run meeting.
