ARREST OF MURDERER
TERRORISING THE DISTRICT. SMALL AMOUNT OF BOOTY. (Press Association. —Copyright.) (Received 12.25 p.m.) Paris, December 7. Gendarmes arrested near Marseilles a 38-year-old Italian, who confessed to four murders in the mountainous Var district. It is stated that the proceeds of the robberies were only about two guineas and an old silver watch. A message on Tuesday states that the wild mountainous district of the Upper Var is terror-stricken by five murders in four months, believed to be the work of one man, as all the crimes are similar. Houses are barricaded at nightfall, and men are going about with their hands on their automatics. Gendarmes are combing a large region.
