LAUNCHED BY WIRELESS

BY DUKE OF GLOUCESTER.

A WIRELESS WONDER FEAT

(Press Association. —Copyright.) (Received 10.15 a.m.) London, December 7.

The wireless arrangements at Barrow for the launching of the P. and O. liner Orion functioned without a hitch.

The Orion slid smoothly down the slipway and took the water perfectly after the Duke of Gloucester, pressing a button in, Brisbane, broke a bottle of wine across her bows. Ideal weather favoured the launching. The Duke of Gloucester s speech was amplified throughout the shipyards. Wireless experts, on hearing the tone signals from Brisbane, saw the switch a foot long snap across the operating mechanism which released a bottle of wine and also withdrew the steel triggers gripping the ship’s keel.
