JUSTICES' COURT

WANDERING STOCK. Owing to the continued illness of the presiding magistrate, Mr. F. W. Platts, a Justices' Court was held in the local Courthouse this morning, Messrs. J. Tammadge and Mostyn Jones presiding. A few undefended civil claims were heard, but the majority of the cases were adjourned to the Magistrate's Court, beyond the jurisdiction of the Justices' Bench.

The Compensation Court was instituted, and the cases brought by Rangitoto settlers against the Crown for damage done to their properties were adjourned sine die, Mr. Mackersey, appearing for the plaintiffs, intimating that he hoped that the cases might be settled at,as early a date as possible. On the Justices' Court being resumed J. Jacobs (Mr. Morton) pleaded guilty l to a charge laid by the Waitomo County Council (Mr. Mackersey) of allowing stock to wander on the Kumara Road, Aria. The Bench imposed a fine of 10s, with costs £2 2s 6d.
