ITALIAN TENOR GAOLED.
CANED DIRECTOR. Giordano Galiegari, opera tenor, was sentenced to three months in gaol recently for caning Gaetano Gaetano Ravagnoli, musical director. Opera circles regarded the police court decision as important, because it upheld the right of a director to choose the artists under him with a free hand. The caning allegedly was administered when Signor Callegari learned that he had not been signed for Carlo Felice Theatre season at Genoa. The singer said he acted within his rights because the director had injured his decorum by calling him a dog and questioning his professional ability. It was alleged that Signor Bavagnoli’s injuries had incapacitated him for work almost a month.
