TRAPS FOR CROCODILES.

HOW A GIANT WAS CAUGHT. Much interest has been shown by Livingstone (Africa) people in the large crocodile which has been captured alive at the confluence of the Maramba with the Zambesi in a floating trap set by Mr. J. W. Soper, of tfte Falls, and is to go to the Johannesburg Zoo. A trap was made of corrugated iron on three sides with a sliding door at the entrance and half-inch bars on the fourth side, constituting an efficient travelling cage. It is in principle like a 12ft. bv 2ft. mousetrap. The bait, in this case a bullock’s head, is suspended by a hook at the far end, and this hook is connected by a stout wire running along the top outside, with a trigger attachment which releases the door when the bait is seized. The prisoner was three feet longer than the trap, and evidently drew its tail inside when the door descended on it, as the massive appendage was found coiled just inside the door.
