(Own Correspondent.) Members of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union held a garden fete at Mrs. S. C. Smith's residence, Pio Pio, on Thursday, March 17th, which was most successful. Small tables and seats were placed under the shelter of the trees, and a large garden umbrella was erected over the W.D.F.U. exchange stall, which was in charge of Mrs. Cocking and Mrs. M. A. Mackenzie. Everything was sold that was sent in. Afternoon tea was in charge of Mrs. V. R. Smith and Mrs. O'Connor, and both were kept very busy all the time. The competitions brought everybody together and caused a great deal of merriment and fun. > Mrs. Young was in charge of the kitchen articles and three ladies tied for this, Mrs. Bob Ash (Aria), Mrs. Cocking and Mrs. Payne. In the draw Mrs. Bob Ash won the prize, a canister of tea given by Mrs. C K. Wilson. The novelty competition was won by Mrs. Robison, the prize being a glass dish given by Mrs. Cullen, and this competition was in her charge. Mrs. Petch and Miss Marion Johnston supervised the pegging competition; Mrs. Neil Ronaldson was the winner, the prize, a bottle of lavender water, being donated by Mrs. Petch. Misses Kathleen Hodson and Maheno Coates ran the bottle competition with success, and the prize, a brooch given by Mrs. E. V. K. Allison, was won by Mrs. S. C. Smith. Mrs. Harry Gould won the treasure hunt, which was in charge of Miss Joyce Jackson. Mrs. Allison donated a brooch. A beautifully iced cake decorated in white and silver was given by Mrs. S. C. Smith. Misses Bilton and Verry undertook the selling of the tickets, and met with great success. The cake was won by Miss Marjorie Williams. Master Newton was in charge of the dart throwing. The president, Mrs. Charlie Jackson, at the conclusion of the afternoon thanked Mrs. S. C. Smith for her kindness in allowing them to hold the fete in her grounds. A hearty vote of thanks was tendered that lady, which was carried by acclamation. "For She is a Jolly Good Fellow" was sung and three hearty cheers given This ended an enjoyable afternoon. The Library Committee wish to thank all those who so kindly sent books and produce for the book stall on the 17th March. As no subsidy has been granted to the library for two years, it was decided to make an appeal to the public for books. The appeal met with ready response and the library will benefit considerably. Those in charge of the stall were Mesdames Terry, Evans and Fulcher. The Church of England Ladies' Guild are running the Cinderella dances again this winter fortnightly. The opening night will be on Saturday, April 9th, and the admission Is. each. Personal.

Mr. Morris, of Christchurch, is visiting his daughter, Mrs. E. V. K. Allison. . Mrs. Frank Gould left for Christchurch on March 17th, where she intends spending a month's holiday. Miss Marjorie Gould is at present staying in Te Awamutu. Mrs. Weldon's many friends will be glad to hear she is convalescing at the seaside after her operation at the Mater Misericordiae Hospital. Mr. Walter Andrews recently met with an accident at his garage, Pio Pio. The jack slipped from the car he was repairing, breaking his collarbone and ribs. His friends will be glad to hear that he is now progressing favourably.
