TANGITU

(Own Correspondent.) The Tangitu annual school picnic was held about four miles up the river from Waimttia, on Mr. G. Brain's property, on Saturday, 12th , inst. The majority of children and adults weer conveyed to the scene of the picnic per Mr. Holgate's lorry and some per private motor cars, and the Tangitu parents are to be congratulated on having supported the picnic in such large numbers, and also those who have no children attending the school. The weather was all that could be desired, and all in all a most enjoyable time was spent by those present. The picnic being held near the river, bathing was indulged in by many, and others indulged in football. It was a decided success from every point of view, and expressions of pleasure for the day's outing was expressed by all. Hewland, was the handicapper for all events, and members of the school committee acted in the various other duties required. The teacher and school committee are to be congratulated on the success of the picnic, and the ladies present, who helped in every way with the catering for the pupils

and those adults present, deserve the best thanks of the committee. The kiddies had a jolly time with plenty of tea, cakes, sandwiches and fruit, and returned home at the close of the day's outing in the best of spirits. There was a fair number of the district suppliers of the New Zealand Co-op. Dairy Co., Ltd., present at the meeting held in the Tangitu Hall on Tuesday, 15th inst. The representatives of the Company present gave a detailed account of the activities of the Company for the past year, and explained many matters connected with the depression as affecting the suppliers. A very unfortunate accident occurred on the Takiri Road, about 3i miles inland from Waimiha on Wednesday, 16th inst., when one of the metal lorries ran into a mob of sheep which were being driven into Waimiha for trucking to the works at Wanganui: 22 of the sheep were killed, and from information gleaned, others were knocked about and bruised. The sheep were the property of Messrs. Brake brothers and J. Sullivan, of Mapiu.
