MAHOENUI

(Own Correspondent.) At the Football Club's dance held last Saturday night there was a very good attendance. A good programme of dance music was supplied by the local Maori Orchestra; the dainty supper provided by the ladies and the excellent floor all added to the evening's enjoyment and made the dance the great success it was. A few days ago a working bee made some improvements to the hall. The entrance to the hall from the road was levelled up and a little later on this is to be metalled, thus giving ample room for the turning and parking of cars. While work outside was being done some of the party were busy carpentering inside the hall. The ladies' dressing room was turned into a very convenient supper room and a new dressing room is to be built at the lower end of the hall - , VI. The annual library meeting was held last Friday evening and quite a number of members rolled up. As Mr. Croall, our former secretary, has left the district, Mr. S. Roberts was selected to fill the position. Mr. W. Avery presided over the meeting and the business of the evening was quickly and satisfactorily disposed of. It was decided that the yearly subscription be £l. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mrs. J. Old for the splendid work done by her as librarian, and she was again elected in that capacity. The new Library Committee consists of Mesdames J. Old, A. H. Rattenbury, 0.

J. O'Malley, Messrs. O'Donoghue and S. Roberts (secretary). We are pleased to hea rthat Mr. L. Brightman, who recently went under an operation for appendicitis in the Hamilton Hospital, is on the improve. We hear that visiting fishing parties from Taranaki, as well as our local enthusiasts, are doinp- very well in the trout line. The river is at present very low and the weather ideal for the sport.
