FIRE AT TE KUITI

HOUSE AND CONTENTS TOTALLY DESTROYED. NO WATER AVAILABLE. An outbreak of fire occurred at Te Kuiti at 11.30 a.m. to-day, resulting in the total destruction of a threeroomed house and contents owned and occupied by Mr. W. Emmerson and family. The house, which was situated on the flat near the Te Kuiti Road, was burning fiercely when the alarm was given. The absence of water rendered the services of the fire brigade unavailing, and within twenty minutes nothing remained of a compact little homestead but the chimney. At the time of the outbreak the house was unoccupied, Mr. Emmerson accompanied by his wife, having left home a short time previously in his motor truck to collect some potatoes. He was informed of the conflagration and returned hastily, but only in time to witness the collapse of the walls and roof of his dwelling. Mr. Emmerson's loss is a heavy one, as the house had not been built very long, and all his furniture and personal effects were destroyed. The insurances were not available.
