EXPLANATION DUE.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —A fortnight ago there appeared in your paper a letter protesting against the wanton destruction by the Borough Council of a dozen or more beautiful English oak and elm trees on the river bank in the Esplanade. have not seen any reply to that letter and consider the Mayor or Town Clerk should in fairness offer some explanation of such a gross and wanton act of destruction. There is another enclosure adjacent to the one in question where some fifty English trees have been planted. Four or five cows are put in this enclosure every night and the trees are shockingly knocked about in consequence. A town is known by its trees. Nothing is more attractive than plenty of English trees. Why should the Te Kuiti Borough Council be so very unmindful of the beauty of the Borough?—l am, etc., FREQUENT VISITOR.
