THE FRENCH FOREIGN LEGION.
ENGLISHMAN'S EXPERIENCE. TWENTY WEEKLY SUICIDES. (Press Association.) London, January 4. The newspaper "The People" reports that Mr a British ex-lieutenant, after gambling losses at Monte Carlo, joined the French Foreign Legion. He escaped as a stowaway on a Spanish steamer, and reached London penniless. He declares that the French keep 1-5,000 legionaries incessantly fighting Moroccan tribes, requiring reinforcemenpts of 700 weekly, and adds that the Legion is nicknamed "The Legion of the Danmed." The legionaries resemble convicts more than soildiers ,and suicides number 20 weekly.
