“Just imagine landing three or four hundred people in Auckland or Wellington at midnight. All (he hotels and boarding houses are shut, the trams have stopped running, and everyone else, with the exception of the street cleaners, has gone to bed.” Such was the comment of an Auckland business man on the new speeding services for Main Trunk trains. In connection with the half-holiday question, which has always been a burning one in Eltluim, Mr C. A. Wilkinson, in the course of an address before the Chamber of Commerce, said that in Paris the shops closed on Monday morning. He considered that a splendid idea.
