DRAMA CLUB
PRESENTATION OF ONE-ACT PLAYS. A very successful and enjoyable evening’s entertainment was provided by members of the Kaikoura Drama. Club on Tuesday, when they presented three one-act plays to a full-house at St. Paul’s Hall. The programme was well received by an audience of approximately 150, and the producers and players are to be complimented on the manner in which the plays were presented. The president of the club (Air B. B. Davidsoii) thanked the audience for giving such generous support, and expressed the appreciation of members to business firms who had loaned “props” for the plays and those who had assisted with the arrangements. Air Davidson intimated that the plays will be presented next Alonday in the Oaro School in aid of the school book fund, and on Tuesday night in St. Paul’s Hall in aid of the Kaikoura District High School Committee’s projector fund. The programme, which .was compered by Air J. S. M. Reid, was as follows:“Little Glass Houses,’’ by Philip Johnston and Howard Agg, was produced by Mrs B. L. Grindell, and those taking part were: Misses H. M. Young, J. Collins, R. D. Evans, L. M. Lununis, and Mrs L. D. Maclachlan. Mr Davidson produced “The Sixth Hour,” by Wilfred Grantham, the cast being Mrs H. F. Crow, Miss M. L. Brooker, and Messrs R. A. Smith, D. H. Ross, and Davidson. The third play was “Something to Talk About,” by Eden Phillpots. Mrs Crow was the producer, and the players were Misses E. Crow, P. Ball, Messrs G. Taylor, H. Cameron, Davidson, K. H. Thwaites, and B. G. McGrath. The assisting programme was provided by Mrs D. B. Aitken (piano) and Mr F. Taylor (saxophone), who played a selection of popular tunes; Mrs Crow gave a monologue, Mrs J. W. Muir, accompanied by Mrs W. Deady, sang “I’ll lyaik Beside You” and “The Sunshine of Your Smile;” and Mesdames W. McD. Baker, Crow, and Miss Brooker sang “We’ll Gather Lilacs” and “Lavender Blue,” the accompaniste being Mrs Deady.
