WAR PRISONERS IN GERMANY.
WELLINGTON, July 22. The Prisoners of War Inquiry Office states that during the last week another nine prisoners formerly in Italian camps were accounted for. One has reached the Allied line and the other eight have been transferred to German camps. There are still 228 former Italian camp prisoners to be accounted for. The latest figures show that approximately 6508 New Zealanders are interned in German camps, and 678 have been repatriated. The number of former prisoners in Switzerland is 99.
Further information has come to hand regarding the stock of food parcels held at various camps in Germany. Tn some of the main camps where New Zealanders are interned such as Stalag VIIIA, Stalag VIIIIB, Stalag XIB, Stalag 344, and Stalag ■383, there arc sufficient parcels in hand to last from 10 to 20 weeks at the issue rate of a parcel a man a week. In some camps there are sufficient to last more than 20 weeks, and in addition, of course, there are large stocks held by the International Red Cross Committee at Geneva.
