ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of members of the Kaikoura Agricultural aud Pastoral Association was held at the Lamp Pavilion on Saturday morning. Mr II J. Barratt (President) presiding. Those in attendance were Messrs E. C. Latter, A. B. Clark, E. B. Smythe, R- Balia n tyne, G. Gray, J. Trewin, H. Roberton, W. Scott, J. Latter, G. E. T. Shand, H. Escott, J. Schroder, J. Griffiths, P. S. Humm, A. C. Scott, W. H. Dalzell, E. W. Harris. D. M. Boss, C. Aitken, Mesdames J. Trewin, E. C. Latter, G. Gray. Apologies were received for the absence of Messrs H. Crampton, H. A. Fairweather, H. Hamilton, W. Stephens Mrs Gale and Miss Latter. The following were elected members of the Association: —Miss J. Latter, Mrs R. Ballantyne, Messrs John Latter, G. Dalzell, D. M. Ross and H. Escott. REPORT AND BALANCE-SHEET. The President, in giving a resume oi the activities of the Association during t’he past year, said he desired to express his thanks to Mr J. Carter for taking over the duties of secretary and for other assistance rendered. He also expressed thanks to the Editor of the Kaikoura Star for assistance. Mr Barratt said he hoped all would do their best to keep up the Association in preparation for the usual activities when Victory was won. To those who had otherwise assisted he extended his thanks. The balance-sheet (already publish ed) was taken as read. Mr G. E. T. Shand referred to the cattle and sheep pens in the assets, say ing he considered that the depreciation was too little. He suggested that a committee be set up to deal with the matter, and moved to that effect. Messrs P. S. Humm. A. B. Clark, E. W. Harris, J. Trewin, E. C. Latter and W. Scott expressed the opinion that the present-day value of the pens had been based on a fair value, but if anything a little low. Messrs G. E. T. Shand, E. C. Latter, W. H. Dallzell, and t'he President (ex officio) were appointed as a committee, with power to act. The Secretary reported having collected £lO 12/6 in members’ subscriptions since the balance-sheet had been circulated. The President stated that it had been agreed to invest a further £lOO in the War Loan. As it was late before th? signatures of the trustees could be obtained the money was invested in the National War Savings Account. Mr E. C. Latter was appointed as cctrustee in the place of Mr IL R. Laidlaw, who is on military service. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following were elected officers: — Patrons, Hon. R. Semple and Mr E. P. Meachen, M.P.; President, Mr H t J. It was decided;, to add £5 to the Sec- I retary’s salary, but Mr Carter said he did not desire i any remuneration for carrying out thqj secretarial duties unless a Show wasf being held. Thi« was seconded by the President. Mr R. Ballantyne said ’he did not approve of the Mr E. W. :Harris said if sufficient members coulil be secured an assistant should be provided for Kaikoura, otherwise the scheme would be of little benefit to the district. The motion was then put and carried. The President expressed thanks to lose in attendance, especially the ladies.
