KAIKOURA CLUB The annual general meeting of the Kaikoura Golf Club was held in the Public Library on Friday night, the president of the Club, Mr J. M. Reid, presiding over an attendance of 20 members. Apologies were receive.! for the absence of several members, and the resignation of three members was received with regret. Report and Balance-Sheet The secretary, Mr W. D. Sabiston, presented the balance-sheet and income and expenditure account, the latter showing a profit of £1 5/9 on the rear’s working.

■ The annual report, presented by the > club captain, Air H. Wilson, stated:— ; 5 our committee has pleasure in presenting the report for the year. The I year’s working shows a small profit of £1 5/9. This is considered satisfactory in view of the heavy expenditure necossaiy for cutting of rough and fairways, . owing to the exceptional growth.. This f expenditure (approximately £6O) is in- . dicated in the item course maintenance , account. During the year the commit■s tee purchased a fairway mower at a i cost of £63. The greatly improved conI dition of the fairways is proof that < the mower is proving satisfactory. The I committee is greatly handicapped in its . endeavour to provide a course of a high standard when the subscriptions payable are so low, and members are ' being provided with a course which is J worth a considerably higher subscrip--1 lion. It is imperative that. additional income be found. The committee is I certainly not desirous of recommend- » ing any increase in the present sub■s scription, therefore it is necessary for i this meeting to devise ways and means * of raising funds. Probably the out- > standing events of the year as far as I the activities of the club were con- » corned was the splendid success of the two tournaments. The annual tournament hold in June and the spring tournament in September resulted in a profit of £42 3/8, which was a great help to the finances of the club. The ■ special thanks of the club are due to those members, who by their efforts ‘ and the hospitality extended to visitJ ing players, were responsible for making these tournaments such successful 1 and happy functions. The standard of play showed improvement and there were quite a number of handicap reduc- ? tions, one or two of the younger play- , eis showing (listing promise; but, * nevertheless, the standard of play is not as high as it should be. If players * wish to improve it is necessary for ’ them to receive tuition, and this can 1 be done by the committee making ar- * rangements for an efficient coach to make visits to Kaikoura during the ’ playing season, but is is useless engaging a professional unless members * avajl themselves of the opportun- ’ ity to have coaching. Inter-club games * were played with Amuri, Cheviot, and South Marlborough, and it may be that with the great amount of work in- * volved, especially to the ladies, there is a danger of being overburdened with club matches. The committee desires Io express thanks to those members who gave valuable assistance during the season. Especially do they wish to thank the ladies for wonk done at the > club house and for catering for the visiting teams and tournaments. Tho thanks of the club are due to the retirt ing president, to those members who so gc nerously provided trophies during the season, to the lion, auditor (Mr J. C. Smith) for his work, to the secretary (Air W. D. Sabiston) for his continued outstanding efforts, hnd to the Kaikoura Star for publicity.” The report and balance-sheet were adopted. * Election of Officers The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: —Patron, ATr F. J. Monk; president. Dr. R. L. Withers; vice-president, Mr W. A. Nelson; club captain, Mr H. Wilson; committee, Alessrs J. Al. Reid, S. R. ()’Callaghan, W. R. Stuart, .1. C. Smith, E. W. Harris, and F. B. Sabiston; hon. secretary and treasurer, Air W. D. Sabiston; hon. auditor, Air .1. C. Smith; press reporter, Mr F. B. Sabiston. General Authority was given the trustees and secretary to operate on the bank account. It was decided that, in recognition of past services, Air E. W. Flower bo made an honorary active life member of the club. The secretary was instructed to inquire re an insurance scheme whereby players and spectators will be insured against accident, the premium to be levied against each member. Various recommendations were submitted to the meeting, some of which will go before the general committee for their consideration. It was decided that a record bo placed on the minute book in appreciation of the services rendered by the rotiiing president. A vote of thanks to the chairman concluded the meeting.
