OUTDOOR ENTERTAINMENT
The outdoor sports entertainment organised by the Catholic Church Commit ter. which took place at the Show Grounds on Saturday was a great success, there being a large attendance of the public and the various attractions kept everyone in an enjoyable mood. The boxing contests, supervised by Air G. Piatt, were most interesting, the lads putting plenty of vim into the bout . The balloon bursting event, on ponies, caused a deal of merriment, Alaster Jat k Smith proving the winner. The pillow tight was won by Air O. Guthrie. The afternoon tea was supervised by ' G. D. Smith. 11. Mackie, C. Wareham. J. P. Smith and several assistantAlcsdames F. Smith, C. Kechan and Alisses P. and D. Smith had • Imige of the produce and fancy stall; Missis Al. Wallace, C. Keehan, E. Wareham and AT. Smith the sweets stall; the competitions were controlled b,\ .Misses S. Aliles and E. Wallace; the -i .i-k golf by Aliss K. Smith -and Air S. Wareham. Winners of competitions were as follows: —Tray cloth: Airs J. H. Toombs; Sucking pig: Mr T. J. Kirby; Doll, Mr R. Howard. The winners of the casket and dinner are not yet ascertainable. During the afternoon a concert was given by the children of the Convent School, the items being much appreciated. Aliss Ruth Chapman was the acrompaniste. The items includ<*d recitations, “The Tomboy,” “Good-bye Billy,” a dialogue by tin* junior elocution pupils, and one entitled “Teaching the A.8.C.,•” a chorus “Dancing Time in Kerry.” “The Choral Speech Choir, ” followed by community singing. The children acquitted themselves most creditably. In the evening a dance was held in the Suburban Hall, when there was a record attendance, and a most enjoyable time was spent by those present. Excellent music was supplied by Mrs M . D. Sabiston, Miss E. Warcram playing an extra. Messrs Hugh Smith and ('. Wareham carried out the duties of M.C.s. During the evening the various competitions were drawn. The box of cigarettes was won by Air P. Brunel Mr Al. Dunn being second and Re,y and Fred third. The hamper was won by Air Alanson. Supper was served and dancing continued until midnight.
