WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.
KAIKOURA BRANCH. A very pleasant afternoon was spent in St. Paul’s Hall on Tuesday last, when members of the Kaikoura branch of the Women’s Institute met Io bid farewell to Mrs .Tames Murray, who is shortly leaving to take up her residence in Wairoa. Mrs N. R. Comer (president) presided over a good attendance and the proceedings opened with the Institute chorus. Mrs Comer picsented Mrs Murray with a posy of beautiful violets, snowflakes, and maiden hair fern, and at the same time expressing deep regret at losing such a valued member. She said that Mis Murray had been the organiser of the Institute in Kaikoura and had also held the office of president for the first two yqars and they all felt, they could not let Mrs Murray depart without some little recognition of her valuable services, Mrs Comer then presented Mrs Murray with a dainty silver jam spoon with the Institute monogram thereon, and. wished her, on behalf of all present, a happy life in Wairoa and the best of health. ’’Mrs Murray was loudly greeted on rising to respond. She thanked the president for her kindly remarks and all present for their very beautiful gift, which would serve to remind her of the many happy hours spent among them. She said she regretted Very much leaving her host of friends and trusted that she would be able to join a W.T. where she was going to. Mrs Murray wished the Institute and members many years of happy times. “For She’s a Jnl.lv Good Fellow” was heartily sung and three hearty cheers given. Two amusing competitions were held and the winners were Mrs R. T. Pope and Mrs E. H. Workman. Social chat followed a very dainty afternoon tea provided by the members and the singing of the closing chorus concluded a very pleasant afternoon.
