WELL BEATEN
COROMANiDEL CRICKET
CARPENTERS’ TEAM WINS In a friendly game of cricket at Coromandel recently a team from the carpenters stationed at the Whangapoua soldiers’ settlement block defeated the Coromandel club by an innings and 74 runs.
Coromandel’s leading batsmen of last season have failed to strike form this year, and once more the score was very low. Whangapoua, chiefly due to the efforts of their captain, J. Knowles, scored l 97, and Coromandel replied with 26 (R. Christian 9) and 45 (McLeod 19, Mclntosh 9). Leopold was a very successful bowler, taking five wickets for 7 runs, including the hat trick in the second innings.
