Messrs J. W. F. Mcßeth, Courtenay Kenny and A. H. McClean thanked the chairman for his welcome.
"There is always the possibility in a democratic society that some of us may fail in the fight,” said Mr Corbett, who expressed regret that Mr L. E. Cooke had been defeated as a board member. He had given excellent services and had shown great public spirit in doing much valuable work at his own expense. Mr Corbett moved that a letter be sent by the • board expressing the board’s appreciation for the service Mr Cooke had rendered.
"I thought I was a good member of the Hauraki Catchment Board,” said Mr McMillan. “The public had quite a different valuation of my capabilities and I am now satisfied that I am not nearly such a good member as I thought I was.” There was much laughter from the other members of the board board.
