NOT POSSIBLE
INCREASED ALLOCATION
THAMES POWER SUPPLY
Thames was being unfairly penalised, said Mr D. C. Carrington, of Thames, at the December meeting of the Thames Valley Electric-Power Board. Its per head allocation of units was well below the average per head allocation over the Dominion and a long way below the average perhead allocation over the Thames Valley district. Mr H. L. Boughton, chairman, replied that the power board was powerless to increase the allocation to Thames until the board’s allocation was increased by the State HydroElectric Department.
“There is no power- available for any increase,” said the manager, Mr R. Sprague, who stated that he had been in communication with the general manager, State Hydro-Electric Department, Wellington, who was emphatic that there would be no increase anywhere of any board’s allocation and that the 10 per cent cut would have to continue until such time as Maraetai commenced to function. Mr Sprague stated that that was the reply he had received to a request for an increase in the allocation to the Thames Valley board. The position today was not as good as it was last year, said Mr G. P. Lindsay, chief engineer. Power boards were now approaching the maximum trouble period and the level of the water in Lake Taupo was below that of last year at the present time.
