OPENING DAY
ALLEY MEMORIAL PARK
VISITING BOWLERS ATTEND Fine weather marked the opening of the Alley memorial park at Hikutaia during last week-end. There was a fair attendance of the public and teajns of bowlers were present from Paeroa, Thames, Kerepehi and Waihi beach. A number of tennis players also availed themselves of the fine day to start the season.
In an elimination tournament of 11 heads, F. Scott’s team from Kerepehi was the winner.
After a dainty afternoon tea had been served by the ladies Mr P. Ingley, president of the park and the park, and the -bowling club, welcomed all members and visitors. The weather, he said, had been very kind, conditions being perfect for all sport he hoped everyone had had an enjoyable day. Mr Ingley also thanked the ladies for their work throughout the day. It was, he knew, greatly appreciated. Mr Ingley then asked Mr Hugh Morrison, the oldest club member, to bowl the first bowl of the 1950 season. He then declared the park and bowling green open. Mr R. Buckrell, of the Paeroa Bowling Club, thanked the Hikutaia club on behalf of the visitors.
