RED LETTER DAY

BUILDINGS FINISHED

HAURAKI OFFICIALLY OPENED

The official opening of the Hauraki Plains Golf Club at the Mangatorata club house on Saturday last was a red letter day for the club members, because they were also celebrating the consummation of a very comprehensive building programme which was undertaken during the recess. Working bees of voluntary workers have extended the club house to a floor space of 1000 square feet and it now contains adequate conveniences for every requirement, there being a large assembly room, a kitchenette, and cloak rooms for both men and women. All this work has been cheerfully done by the members, and next season they intend to get to work on improving the grounds.

After enjoying a sumptuous lunch, members assembled for the annual presentation of trophies. The president, Mr T. Burns, assisted by his wife, presented the many cups and other trophies. He congratulated the club on its very satisfactory progress and wished everyone very enjoyable golf in the new season.

The following wer the recipients of trophies:— Men: senior champion, W. Murphy; junior champion, T. Burns; Mb t ion cup, M. Taylor; Symonds cup, G. Reid; Woodward cup, N. Paton; president’s trophy, G. Reid; patron’s trophy, L. Main; Hauraki Stores trophy, W. Baxter; captain’s trophy, W. Baxter; McPherson cup, Leo Main; Redmond memorial cup, A. Tatton; Birkenhead trophy, Berney Leonard; senior ringer, W. Baxter; junior ringer, J. Ganley.

Ladies: Captain’s trophy, Mrs G. Paton; Paton Bros, shield, Mrs D. Kennedy of Patetonga; club’s vase (electic), Mirs J. Pacey; club rose bowl, stableford, Mrs L. Main; presentation rose bowl, Mis§ Flower Coxhead; course backward, Miss Sanderson; patron’s trophy, Miss Sanderson; McQuiod trophy, Mrs G. Paton. During the afternoon a stableford match was played, the winners proving to be Alex McPherson and H. J. Paton.
