FATHER XMAS
TOUR OF THE TOWN
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE IDEA
What type of function should be organised for the Christmas shopping night in Paeroa was a subject for discussion at the October meeting of the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce.
Mr J. J. Craig, chairman, said that last year there had been a tour of Father- Christmas and his retinue through the town and according to reports it was most successful.
Mr E. W. Lee moved that Mr G. E. Button be appointed organiser for the function and that it be extended. Perhaps the band could be induced to take part in the proceedings. He included in his motion the appointment of a sub-committee to assist Mr Button.
Mr A. C. Boulton suggested that, if possible, the proceedings should be more prolonged. It was not easy to develop new ideas but he thought the matter could be well left in the hands of Mr Button, who had done well last year.
The motion was duly'carried. Last year the cost of the Father Christmas function was about £26, said Mr Craig. A motion that the sub-committee be authorised to spend up to £5O upon the entertainment and that Mr Button select his own sub-committee was duly carried.
