RETAIL COLLEGE

TO VISIT PAEROA?

SCREENING OF FILMS

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE VIEW

He and Mr E. Ward as representatives of the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce had attended the screening of films by the Retailers College at To Aroha recently and had listened to an explanation of the working of the college in salesmanship instruction, said Mr J. J. Craig, chairpian of the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce at its October meeting.

Mr Craig stated that he was enthusiastic about the school of instruction visiting Paeroa. It was too late to do anything about the matter this year but he thought a programme should be arranged for the holding of a retail school in Paeroa about March and use made of the interim period to make the necessary arrangements for pupils. Mr E. Ward thought there would be difficulty in getting 25 students in Paeroa. Some neighbouring town should be invited to join in with the project. Mr N. C. Davies gave his support for the scheme and thought that advantage should be taken of the opportunity to secure tuition for members’ staffs.

M'r A. C. Boulton expressed surprise at the suggestion that there would be difficulty in securing 25 students, the minimum number required for the visit of the college.

Mr Craig suggested that Miss Parnell be invited to display films as the preliminary step in the arrangement for the retail school. Mr Boulton moved that Miss Parnell be invited to screen films in March next. Mr Davies seconded the motion.

Who paid the, fees of £4/4/- per student? asked Mr Edwin Edwards.

In reply Mr Craig said that* usually the student paid but there was nothing to prevent the employer from assisting or sharing in the payment though the student gained an advantage for himself. There was no fixed rule about the matter.

The motion moved by Mr Boulton was carried.
