A DISGRACE
CONDITION OF LIME BAGS
FARMiERS BADLY TREATED
“The position is disgraceful,” said Mr J. E. Silcock, secretary, at the October meeting of the Paeroa branch of Federated Farmers, when discussing the very bad condition of bags in which lime was delivered to farmers.
Mr Silcdck informed members that he had consigned to him 10 tons of lime ,of which half was in bags badly torn and in many cases not even tied. Another member gave his experience of half of his lime being loose in the railway truck. • The farmer was charged £l/276 per ton for the lime bags and then when they were returned they were mostly condemned, complained several members.
If the farmers went about the matter in the correct way the unfair position could be easily overcome, said Mr O. P. Liddell.
There was another loss occasioned by the farmer, said Mr P. C. Mace, who pointed out that there was a very considerable loss of lime which was not spread up the land because it was lost through the bad condition of the bags.
“It is a most important and serious matter,” said Mr C. G. Jackson, who moved that the matter be investigated and be brought before the next meeting, when suggestions could be made by members as to how the problem could be handled.
Mr Jackson’s motion was duly carried.
