NO DRAINAGE

PROPERTY IN PAEROA

BOROUGH COUNCIL DECISION

A request that a drain running through the front of his property in Taylor avenue, Paeroa, be piped was made to the October meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council by Mir J. B. Duncan.

The applicant explained that the drain was a storm water outlet for several properties, including the borough reServe. The fall of the drain lessened as it passed under the road and the water backed up to a depth of nine inches across his property. The water remained for weeks after the slightest fall of rain and after a time tended to become stagnant and a breeding place for mosquitoes. In addition the intermittent overflow of the main sewer and its occasional bursting had given the drain a smell that was neither pleasant nor healthy for human beings or animals. The m'atter lhad Ibeen considered before, said the mayor, Mr Edwin Edwards, but conditions had arisen in the particular case which made it desirable that the council should take some action to remedy the nuisance. The borough foreman, Mr R. Nield, advised the council that 24 pipes w : ere required and the cost would be approximately £l5. The mayor moved that the matter be referred to the works committee with authority to meet Mr Duncan on the ground with power to act. The motion was duly carried.
