TRAFFIC BRIDGE

DANGER TO SCHOOL PROBLEM AT. PAEROA BOROUGH COUNCIL DECISION “The committee has been greatly concerned regarding the ■danger to school pupils cycling to and from the secondary department of the 'Paeroa District High iSdhool and across the traffic bridge,” wrote the secretary of the committee, Mr N. G. Collinge, to the October meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council. The letter stated that it was felt that it was a matter of urgency that steps should be taken to straighten and widen the road from the school to the bridge and provide for a wider footpath and cycle track. It was desirabll that a cycle track should be added to the bridge and it was also considered that the practicability of doing so should 'be explored. The committee would appreciate any action the council might be able to take with regard to the road and the bridge to ensure greater safety for- the children.

The road in : question was under the jurisdiction of the Main Highways Board, ssid the mayor, ’Mr Edwin Edwards, who suggested that a copy of the letter be forwarded to the Highways Board. Cr H. P. Wylde pointed out that unless proposals were submitted little would be done. A Concrete proprosal should be made and submitted.

A suggestion was made by Cr R. Jeffrey that the senior engineer be invited to meet the works committee. The matter was an urgent one, stated Cr N. C. Davies, who supported Cr Jeffrey’s idea of a meeting with the senior engineer, Paeroa. He did not think much good would come out of such a suggestion as the board wanted proper engineer’s plans. It might, 'however, be advisable to send a copy of the school committee’s letter to the senior engineer, said Cr Wylde. The council resolved that a copy of the letter be sent to the senior engineer, Paeroa, and a request be made for a conference between the work’s committee and the engineer. z
